In my early twenties, before children, animals and the chaos that normally follows them, I became determined to replace my granny’s ancient bed skirts — the ones with all the frills — with something a little more modern, something that didn't require an entire army to put on or take off.
I grew up with a mom who taught us that if you couldn't find what you needed, you made a plan. So I started sewing.
The first base covers in my home were hot-glued, stapled messes that stayed on the bed with a wish and a prayer. Wash days required re-installation on engineering levels! But over time, and through many different versions, the answers to a good-looking, genuinely useful base cover became clearer.
Today, Dress Your Bed's base covers are properly made, beautifully finished and — most importantly — easy to live with.
We designed them with three simple things in mind:
Dress the whole bed — not just the top bit | Make wash days easy | And never lift another mattress - EVER! That became Dress Your Bed.
We're starting small, making locally and choosing the people, fabrics and processes behind our products carefully. We believe useful things should be made properly, to last, and make everyday life just a little easier — and a little prettier.
This is the first thing we've made.
We have a few more ideas...
